What can you expect?
-
This is a facilitated space for participants to process and receive care for a story or experience of spiritual abuse. Group times will include teaching on narcissism and spiritual abuse, as well as engagement around personal stories of harm.
-
You will be invited to write a specific experience or story of spiritual abuse. For some of you, that might be a specific event. And for others, it may be a larger context that you were in. There is no right or wrong story to bring. You’re then invited to bring your written story to the retreat and during the small group time, you will have the opportunity to read it out loud, and Jill and Rebekah will facilitate a time for the group to process your story or experience with you.
We will send you some steps for preparation as we move closer to the retreat, but in the meantime, we recommend beginning to consider your own story(s) of spiritual abuse. Maybe you have a significant event, or perhaps your experience felt more subtle. There is no right or wrong experience or story to bring, so for now, just begin to notice what arises.
-
We know that spiritual abuse impacts every part of us, mind, soul, and body. Our hope is to offer holistic care as you process the impact of spiritual abuse during this retreat. You will have the opportunity to experience a Biofield Tuning session with a certified practitioner.
Biofield Tuning is a type of sound therapy that uses tuning forks to detect and help correct imbalances in your body’s “biofield”—an energetic field which surrounds the human body. It blends concepts from physics, subtle energy work, and therapeutic sound.
-
We will have guided group practices, as well as individual practices, that will provide a structured way to grieve, rage, or process other emotions. These practices will give your mind, heart, and bodies concrete action to process the impact of spiritual abuse.
Examples could include chopping wood to process anger, burning hand-written letters to abusive systems, and marking thresholds.

FAQ
-
Absolutely! This retreat is focused on healing from spiritual abuse and the ways that we have been harmed within faith systems, whether that is a church, family, institution, etc. Engaging the ways that we have been harmed in those systems can sometimes bring up theological questions or challenge beliefs, but our intention is to bring care, not to act in a different kind of fundamentalism in which we are demanding you believe or don't believe a certain way.
-
We will send participants more details as we move closer to the retreat, but in the meantime, we recommend beginning to consider your own story(s) of spiritual abuse. Maybe you have a significant event, or perhaps your experience felt more subtle. There is no right or wrong experience or story to bring.

This retreat is intended for women and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

A detailed schedule will be sent to registered participants as details are finalized, but you can anticipate a welcome dinner on Thursday evening, and 2 process groups for each day (Friday & Saturday) that will consist of story engagement and teaching. There will also be time built into the schedule for personal reflection, group activities to engage grief (optional), and rest. All food will be provided each day. We will end Sunday with a final gathering together and closing ritual. You will also have the opportunity to receive a Biofield Tuning session on Friday or Saturday.
